What is the women's land army
The women's land army was a group of women who grew crops and farmed. The land army only used to be women from 20 to 30 it expanded to 19 to 43. All women were asked to work in the land army, farming or industry. By6 1943, more than 80,000 women were working for the land army.

The land army was set up in 1939.
The women's land army looked after animals, harvested, dug up plants and killed rats.
They worked for 48 hours a week in the winter and 50 hours a week in summer.
They were paid 1 pound 85 pence a week, working 50 hours or more. The pay went up to 2 pounds 85 pence in 1944.
The women's land army helped supply Britain with food when U boats destroyed many boats bringing food from America to Britain.
The land army worked harder during 1943, when U boats increased. The land army continued till 1950 and so did rationing.
Uniform

Women would wear a brown corduroy or whipcord breeches, brown brogues, fawn knee length woolen socks. For special occasions, they would wear their service uniform on the left.
